Export regions

Bird's-eye and pili-pili chillies are small, intensely hot fruits. Fresh pods have taut skins; dried ones wrinkle around their seeds.

They add heat to food in quantities that can seem surprisingly small. Chilli plants originated in the Americas and spread into cultivation in other tropical regions. After picking, the fruits are used fresh or prepared for keeping. A buyer accustomed to sweet peppers needs to recognise these fiery little pods before treating them the same way.
