Export regions

Chillies are the fleshy fruits of American plants that have spread through warmer parts of the world. Their skins enclose many seeds, and their shape, colour and heat vary greatly.

Cooks use them fresh or preserved, including in vinegar. Some have thick flesh and mild flavour; others give fierce heat in a small quantity. Harvesting and preparation produce quite different goods, so a buyer needs to recognise the kind of chilli and its condition rather than judge every lot by size alone.
