Voatsiperifery is a wild pepper from Madagascar, growing on vines that climb through the forest. Its small berries keep a short stalk, a useful clue when examining the whole spice.

The fruit has a woody aroma and a pungent taste, released more fully by crushing or grinding. Harvesters must reach berries growing above the forest floor. The dried cargo preserves the shape of the fruit, though little else reveals the work of gathering it.
