Dill is carried as dried aromatic seeds: flat, oval, ridged and yellowish brown. A few crushed between the fingers release a distinctive scent.

Apothecaries use them in remedies intended to aid digestion. The plant has finely divided leaves and yellow flowers arranged in umbrella-shaped clusters. Its fruits are gathered after flowering and dried; these are the small seeds sold by merchants, quite unlike the delicate green herb growing in the field.
